Bruce Levenson’s Atlanta Hawks Ownership Group Seek To End AIG Insurance Fight

An ongoing insurance dispute between the former ownership group of the Atlanta Hawks NBA franchise and the New Hampshire based insurance giant AIG that has been in play since the Summer of 2015 looks set to end in court after the Bruce Levenson led former consortium filed papers alleging breach of contract on the part of the insurance provider. The papers have been filed at a Fulton County Court by the legal team for Bruce Levenson and his fellow former owners of the Hawks franchise who believe a constructive dismissal claim should have been completed as part of an insurance policy held at the time former General Manager Danny Ferry agreed to a mutual termination of his six year $12 million contract.

The legal team for Bruce Levenson has stated an initial claim was discussed as early as April 2015 by the then Hawks owners as negotiations were taking place with potential buyers for the franchise over comments made by Danny Ferry. The legal papers go on to state Ferry’s actions prompted AIG to agree in principle to the insurance claim; however, Bruce Levenson’s legal team has stated the insurance provider has cut off all contact with the Atlanta Hawks basketball and Entertainment consortium headed by Bruce Levenson since the sale of the team to Tony Ressler’s group was announced in June 2015 according to ESPN.

Securus Technologies Seals the Connection

Securus Technologies was established in 1991 and is headquartered in Dallas, Texas. Securus provides state-of-the-art communications services to correctional institutions, law enforcement facilities, and safety organizations all across North America. They serve over 2,200 correctional facilities and over 1,200,000 inmates.

Securus offers several phone services and methods of payment such as direct billing, debit billing, collect call billing and prepaid calls. One of the more popular services is the video calls which in many cases negates the need for a family to travel and have to wait in line to see their loved one. Jail voicemail, email, and money transfer are other services that are offered.

In recent months, GTL a competitor of Securus made outrageous and untrue claims about how the services and pricing of GTL were superior to those of Securus. On a point by point comparison, Securus far outperforms GTL, so Securus offered to have a head-to-head challenge just to set the record straight, to be judged by an independent party.

For a few weeks there was silence from GTL, and then they politely declined to participate in the challenge. It is very difficult to continue to make false claims with the facts staring GTL in the face. Former GTL customers who have switched to Securus favor their experience with Securus as highly positive in comparison on a 3 to 1 basis.
